SHANGHAI, Oct. 16, 2025 — The 2025 Shanghai International City and Architecture Expo is scheduled to take place at the Shanghai World EXPO Exhibition & Convention Center from October 30 to November 1.
Serving as a complementary event to World Cities Day, the expo is a joint initiative of UN-Habitat and the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing, Urban-Rural Development and Management. The Shanghai Green Building Council is the primary organizer, with the Shanghai Coordination Center of World Cities Day acting as co-organizer.
Spanning almost 40,000 square meters, this year’s expo spotlights smart solutions for urban and rural development alongside green and low-carbon initiatives. It offers attendees an immersive experience into Shanghai’s pioneering innovations and outlines a pragmatic approach for urban planning, governance, and sustainable growth.
The exhibition features six distinct thematic areas: World Cities Day, district-level construction successes, artificial intelligence applications, green and low-carbon advancements, future cities from a child’s perspective, and cultural and creative products related to the expo.
Additionally, four industry development exhibition zones are established, centering on the themes of livable, resilient, and smart cities. These sections—green development, urban renewal, smart empowerment, and resilient cities—will showcase technologies and projects across areas like heritage building conservation, revitalization of old industrial areas, sponge city implementation, and critical infrastructure safety.
A series of concurrent events will complement the expo, encompassing high-level forums, business networking opportunities, and career promotion activities.
Furthermore, 16 districts of Shanghai, along with the Lingang New Area, are set to participate, jointly presenting their unique urban and rural construction practices within the district-level construction achievements exhibition area.
Concurrently, prominent industry enterprises will also be present, displaying their cutting-edge technologies and exemplary projects.
Beyond the main exhibition, more than 30 supporting activities are planned, including high-level discussions, talent recruitment initiatives, industrial collaboration sessions, and public science education programs.
