According to an exit poll, the opposition Labour Party is projected to win a decisive victory in the general election, ending nearly 15 years of Conservative rule.
The poll, released shortly after voting concluded on Thursday, suggests that Labour leader Keir Starmer will become the next prime minister of the United Kingdom.
“Today, Britain’s future is on the ballot,” Starmer wrote in an X post earlier.
If Starmer wins the general election, it would be Labour’s first victory since 2005.
Labour has promised to stimulate the UK’s sluggish economy, invest in infrastructure and establish the country as a “clean energy superpower.”
Rishi Sunak has served as the UK’s prime minister and leader of the Conservative Party since 2022.
