Marcos declares April 6, 7 and 10 regular holidays

FILIPINOS will have a long weekend next month after the presidential palace declared two days of the Holy Week as regular holidays.

In a statement, the Presidential Communications Office said Apr. 6 and 7 will be regular holidays in observance of Holy Week, which is observed worldwide to commemorate the death of Jesus Christ.

More than 85 million Filipinos identified themselves as Roman Catholic in a 2020 government census.

The palace said Apr. 10 would also be a regular holiday to mark the heroism of Filipino warriors who defended Bataan, Corregidor and Bessang Pass against Japanese soldiers during World War II.

The so-called Day of the Valor is usually commemorated on Apr. 9, which falls on a Sunday this year. — Kyle Aristophere T. Atienza
