THE PHILIPPINE government allocated P925 million for distribution on World Teachers’ Day on October 5, with each beneficiary to get P1,000, a congressman said on Monday.
“We have an itemized sum of P925 million that is meant to pay for the (World Teachers’ Day benefit) of our teachers this year,” Quezon City Rep. Marvin C. Rillo, a House Appropriations Committee member said in a press release.
Congress is determined to continue the fund annually, he added.
October 5 is designated by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as World Teachers’ Day. This is complemented by Republic Act No. 10743, which declares it as National Teacher’s Day.
The day is dedicated to celebrating the crucial role of teachers in children’s guidance and learning processes and to paying tribute to the profession itself. — Kyanna Angela Bulan
