The family that endorses together, stays together

IT’S ALL IN THE FAMILY for the Dantes showbiz clan and online shopping mall Shopee. Marian Rivera has become a Shopee Ambassador with her own commercial. Her husband, Dingdong Dantes, and their daughter Zia were introduced during last year’s holiday season as ambassadors.

During a press conference earlier this month for Shopee’s March 15 sale, Ms. Rivera, who was a judge at last year’s Miss Universe pageant said, “Siempre natutuwa ako dahil kasama ko ang asawa at anak ko ngayon sa Shopee. Sobra, sobrang excited ako. (Of course, I’m happy that I’m with my husband and child right now in Shopee. I’m very, very, excited right now).”

SHOPPING STYLE
Asked what she buys from Shopee, Ms. Rivera said, “Nagluluto ako, so gusto ko maayos at maganda iyong mga gamit — na nabibili lang sa Shopee (I cook, so I want my things to be good and beautiful things I can only get from Shopee). She recalled buying kitchen wipes that came in a pack of five for about P35 as one of her first purchases.

Ms. Rivera is known for her shopping prowess, as her photographs of her holding some of the world’s most coveted handbags might prove. Asked how she controls shopping urges, she says, “Iyong honest na sagot? Ayoko magpapigil! (The honest answer? I don’t want to be stopped!),” she said with some laughter. “Life’s short, kailangang i-enjoy mo yan… kailangan palagi tayong mabait para sa sarili natin (Life’s short, you need to enjoy it. We always need to be good to ourselves).”

On that note, Shopee Director Martin Yu cited the 10 Global Consumer Trends report for 2022, saying, “Many consumers [are] self-love seekers. Fifty-four percent of those surveyed want to be happy in the next five years by directing their purchasing power towards products that nurture their well-being.”

The report says, “Acceptance, self-care and inclusion are at the forefront of consumer lifestyles. Self-Love Seekers prioritize their happiness, feeling comfortable in their own skin and indulging in goods and services that elevate their sense of self. Businesses need to support consumers on their journey and understand their priorities to inform innovation. Offerings that help consumers feel fulfilled, positive and self-assured will improve brand perception.”

“This year, consumers are focusing more on their physical and mental wellness,” said Mr. Yu. “At Shopee, we commit to growing our platform and services so that users can have the best consumer experience.”

SHOPEE’S MARCH 15 SALE
Mr. Yu pointed to the March 15 sale, their first mega sale for this year. Luckily, their payday sale for this month coincides with World Consumer Rights Day. “It is a day to champion and support every consumer. In the Philippines, we wanted to use this day to celebrate all (that) shoppers deserve.”

Sale highlights include Free Shipping vouchers with no minimum spend, ₱1 Deals, and 10% off daily until March 15. During the first two hours of March 15, shoppers can look forward to storewide discounts from brands like Pampers, realme, OPPO, Adidas, Unilever Beauty, and Deerma. Users should also regularly check the Shopee app for Shopee Mall’s hourly price drops, where top brands will offer limited-time flash deals on their best-selling products. Shopee also unveils its Shopee Mall Sampling Counter, where users can try sample-size products from brands like Johnson & Johnson, Uni-care, COSRX, Trizie, and AHC Philippines, and get a free voucher if they decide to purchase the regular-sized product. — JL Garcia
