Graphic footage captures the aftermath of a fatal tourist plane crash on a highway in France.
The crash occurred on the A4 highway near Collegien, a small town in the Seine-et-Marne region, approximately 18 miles east of Paris.
Three individuals, a woman and two men, perished in the crash. According to Storyful, the plane had two additional occupants, but their conditions are unknown.
The footage depicts heavy traffic adjacent to the wreckage, showing the plane lying upside down.
Smoke billows from the scene in the video as emergency personnel attend to the crash.
Local prosecutor Jean-Baptiste Bladier informed the French newspaper Le Parisian that the pilot “very likely” struck a high-voltage line shortly after takeoff. Local reports indicate that Bladier is investigating the incident as a potential case of involuntary manslaughter.
Aircraft crashes near or on highways are uncommon. In August 2023, a crashed on the side of a Malaysian highway, resulting in the deaths of at least nine people.
In February, two individuals lost their lives in a plane crash on Interstate 75 .
French authorities are actively investigating the incident. No further information is available at this time.
