100,000 seniors needed to get vaccinated

LOCAL government units (LGUs) in Cebu Province and the highly urbanized cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu will need to vaccinate a total of 100,200 senior citizens against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in order for them to be deescalated from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1.This was what Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, chief pathologist of the Department of Health in Central Visayas (DOH 7) and spokesperson of the Visayas Vaccination Operations Center (VVOC), disclosed after the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) only deescalated Cebu City to Alert Level 1 or new normal among LGUs in Cebu Island from March 16 to March 31, 2022.Loreche said Lapu-Lapu City and the rest of the LGUs in the province were still short in the number of vaccinated senior citizens while data in Mandaue City is still subject for reconciliation with the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC).She said Lapu-Lapu City has not complied with the 68 percent senior citizens vaccination ratio, which is one of the requirements for deescalation from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 1.Cebu Province, on the other hand, also has to work on fully vaccinating their total eligible population while also increasing the number of their fully-vaccinated senior citizens. As of March 15, data from the VVOC showed that Mandaue City had already exceeded the vaccination ratio requirement with 92.32 percent, the highest among the LGUs in Cebu Island. However, VVOC data further showed that Metro Cebu still needs to vaccinate around 10,474 senior citizens while south and north Cebu need to vaccinate 44,908 and 44,871, respectively.Of the number, Lapu-Lapu City has to vaccinate 5,061 seniors while the City of Naga has to vaccinate around 1,635.The towns of Consolacion and Liloan, on the other hand, have to fully vaccinate 1,924 and 1,854 seniors, respectively.Talisay City and Minglanilla have vaccinated 78.36 percent and 80.82 percent of their respective eligible senior citizens. The town of Cordova has already jabbed 74.86 percent of its eligible senior citizens.Other LGUs in Cebu Province that already reached the vaccination requirements included Pilar and Tudela in the Camotes Group of Islands with a vaccination rate of 72.78 percent and 79.41 percent, respectively.Though some LGUs in Cebu Province have already met the vaccination ratio for senior citizens and its total eligible population, Loreche said all LGUs must improve their overall vaccination performance in order for them to deescalate to Alert Level 1.Meanwhile, Cebu Province was still at 53.06 percent or 1,411,004 fully vaccinated individuals from its 2,659,045 eligible population belonging to the age group of 18 years old and above.
