13 cops, 14 detainees test positive for coronavirus in Samboan

A TOTAL of 13 police personnel and 14 detainees of the local police station in the southern town of Samboan, Cebu were found to be positive of Sars-Cov-2, the virus that causes the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

They were found positive a day after the Municipal Government implemented a hard lockdown on seven barangays after they noted an increasing number of active Covid-19 cases there.

Col. Engelbert Soriano, Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) director, said that of the 14 detainees who tested positive for Covid-19, one was brought to a nearby hospital after his symptoms reportedly worsened.

Following what happened in Samboan, Soriano ordered the Provincial Mobile Force Company to deploy personnel to the town to address its shortage of police officers while the Municipal Government implements the hard lockdown.

Soriano assured that the town’s peace and order situation will not be hampered as there are still organic police personnel who have not contracted the disease.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Government of Barili town has issued a temporary closure order against a restobar in Barangay Guiboangan.

Its patrons were caught on video violating health and safety protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19. They were not observing social distancing and many were not wearing face masks.

Barili Mayor Julieto “Julie” Flores told SunStar Cebu that he has ordered the local police to investigate what had happened. (WBS, AYB / JKV)
