150-250K join Leni-Kiko rally

THOUSANDS of Cebuanos attended the Ceboom Grand Rally at the North Reclamation Area (NRA) in Mandaue City on Thursday, April 21, 2022, in support of presidential candidate Leni Robredo and vice presidential candidate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan.At 7:30 p.m., local police tasked to secure the event estimated that around 50,000 people attended the rally.But hours later, Lt. Col. Franco Rudolf Oriol, spokesperson for the Mandaue City Police Office, told SunStar Cebu that he would no longer give updates on the crowd estimate and just leave this to the rally’s organizers.An organizer of the event said around 250,000 were in attendance at 9 p.m., when Robredo started her speech.“The area (of the rally) is 52,659 sq meters multiply by four or five per person in a square meter,” said Ricky Ballesteros, one of the organizers of the event, on his Facebook page. However, a local police official who declined to be named gave a crowd estimate of 150,000 at the end of the event.Oriol said even though the grand rally attracted a big gathering, the event was generally peaceful and orderly.Oriol, however, admitted that some people at the rally, particularly young adults, were brought to medic stations in and outside the venue due to medical complaints including fainting, dehydration and high blood pressure.Hours before the rally, Robredo and Pangilinan attended mini rallies in the towns of Bantayan, Tabuelan, Tuburan and the cities of Bogo and Danao starting at 8 a.m. to meet with their supporters.Accompanied by reelectionist Vice Gov.
