AT LEAST 180 students of the Mandaue City College Technological and Entrepreneurial Skills Center (MCCTest) graduated from three-month vocational courses during a formal ceremony held at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.Melinda Bihag, MCCTest acting head, told reporters during the ceremony on Tuesday, that the 180 graduates comprised at least three batches.Bihag said this is the first set of graduates for MCCTest this year as the graduation intended for last year was postponed due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.The graduates availed of three-month vocational courses such as Bread and Pastry production, cookery, automotive mechanics, Hilot Wellness Massage, and industrial sewing machine operation (Ismo), among others.After graduation, they will be given a chance to take the National Certificate Level 2 (NC2) test of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda).Floro Ringca, provincial director of Tesda Central Visayas, who was one of the event’s special guests, said the vocational training in MCCTest is a good experience for those who plan to take Tesda’s NC2 test as it already covers the competencies needed for the assessment.“The training does not necessarily mean that it is a prerequisite for the assessment (NC2 test). As long as you have the experience or knowledge, you can go directly with the assessment even without proper training,” said Ringca.The NC2 test is the primary step for vocational course graduates who want to work overseas, particularly as foreign domestic workers.
