2 families in Talisay City evacuated due to strong waves

TWO families were forcibly evacuated from their homes in Sitio Litmon, Barangay Dumlog in Talisay City on Friday, July 23, 2021, after huge waves brought by the yearly southwest monsoon winds or “habagat.”

Alvin Santillana, head of Talisay City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (TCDRRMO), confirmed the matter to reporters on Friday.

Santillana said no one was hurt or killed as they were immediately rescued by their relatives living in the area.

All of the affected families have been evacuated to nearby relatives, Santillana added.

Felipa Solana, Talisay City Social Welfare and Development (TCSWD) officer, said one house was destroyed while three others were damaged due to the strong waves.

Meanwhile, strong winds brought about by the “habagat” felled a century-old mango tree on Gothong Road, Barangay Subangdaku in Mandaue City, damaging two houses, at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 22.

Ernie Manatad, Subangdaku village chief, said at the time of the incident, barangay officials together with responders from Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) were conducting trimming of trees along Lopez Jaena St. as a precautionary measure against accidents.

No one was hurt or killed, Manatad said. (JKV, KFD)
