2 men rob, slit tongue of taxi driver

LOCAL police are now looking for two men who robbed and slit the tongue of a 52-year-old taxi driver in Barangay Pitalo, San Fernando town, southern Cebu on Tuesday dawn, April 12, 2022.Police identified the victim as Andres Alfanta, a resident of Barangay Cantao-an, City of Naga and an employee of Hadjie Taxi Cabs.According to police, Alfanta was set to go home for the day. When he passed by Banawa in Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, the two robbers hailed the taxi he was driving.The culprits reportedly told Alfanta that their destination was the town of San Fernando.As San Fernando is just a few kilometers from his hometown, Alfanta decided to take them there.When they arrived in Barangay Pitalo in San Fernando, the two men asked Alfanta to stop just a few meters from the village hall.After stopping the vehicle, Alfanta saw the two men pulled out their gun and knife. They held him up and ordered him to move his taxi to a secluded area just between Barangay Pitalo and the town proper.When they got there, the men took Alfanta’s earnings amounting to P4,200.But before leaving, the two robbers attempted to strangle Alfanta. Then they slit his tongue.Alfanta’s daughter Lovely said her father drove his taxi to a private hospital in the City of Naga but he was refused admission.He eventually got treated at the Cebu South Medical Center (formerly the Talisay District Hospital) in Talisay City.Lovely, in her Facebook post, has narrated that her father begged for his life as the robbers had wanted to kill him.She has urged local police to immediately identify and arrest the two men who robbed and tried to kill her father.San Fernando police investigator Cpl. Mario Paul Pino, in an interview Wednesday, said they have coordinated with the Cebu City police to identify the culprits.Pino added that they also want to secure Alfanta’s testimony once his wounds are healed.
