2 Olango barangays gain ‘drug-cleared’ tag

THE City Anti-Drug Abuse Council (Cadac) of Lapu-Lapu City passed a resolution on July 13, 2021, to provide commendation and cash rewards to Barangays Tingo and Baring on the island of Olango.

This has to do with the barangays’ success in gaining the “drug-cleared” status from the Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug-Clearing Program, which is headed by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) 7, last June 30.

According to the PDEA central office, “before declaring that a barangay is free from illegal drug activities, the committee must convene and validate the non-availability of drug supply in the area and the absence of drug transit activity, clandestine drug laboratory, and chemical warehouse, marijuana cultivation site, drug den, drug pusher, and user.”

A separate resolution was passed by the Cadac to also commend Police Station 1 of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office for its consistent monitoring of the two barangays and keeping these barangays free from illegal drugs and dependents.

The head of the City of Lapu-Lapu Office of Substance Abuse and Prevention, Garry Lao, chaired the Cadac meeting.

He said the resolutions will be submitted to the City Council for its approval. If approved, the resolutions will be signed by Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan.

The reward money for the two barangays would be spent solely for the programs and projects of the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and not for any other purposes.
