3 2022 NBA All Star Weekend highlights

For basketball enthusiasts all over the world, Feb. 21 proved to be a fun day as it was the conclusion of the NBA All-Star Weekend 2022. Here are a few highlights from the weekend.Stephen Curry had a historical outing during the finaleThe Golden State Warriors superstar was named the All-Star Game MVP as he sank a record-breaking 16 triples to help him get 50 points on the way to his team’s (Team Lebron) victory. Curry broke the record for most 3-pointers in an All-Star Game. Team Lebron beat Team Durant, 163-160.Day 1 featuring “Rising Stars” has new formatWhile the new format of the All-Star Game had everyone glued to their seats and is generally praised for bringing out more of the competitive fire out of the game’s most notable stars, the rookies and sophomores underwent a change a well in their game which in the past could be perceived as a little lacklustre. For this year’s Rising Stars Challenge, it was not formatted into a mini tournament with four seven-player teams competing to win it all the way. This year’s big winner? Rookies Cade Cunningham and Franz Wagner led Team Barry over Team Isiah, 25-20.First time a Center wins the 3-point shootoutStar Center Karl Anthony-Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves was “technically” the first Center to win the 3-point contest. There are other tall guys who have won in the past (Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Love) but they have been more comfortable playing the Power Forward position rather than the five spot. In December 2021, KAT said in an interview that he considered himself “the greatest big-man shooter of all time.” During the final round, KAT beat Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young and Los Angeles Clippers sharpshooter Luke Kennard. No one’s laughing now.The weekend had been a blast, and despite the widely criticized dunk contest that was widely considered “the worst of all time,” it’s back to the regular season in a few days where the world awaits the real winners come June.
