30K PUV drivers receive fuel discount cards

AROUND 30,000 public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers have received fuel discount cards courtesy of the Cebu City Government.City officials started distributing fuel discount cards to PUV drivers on Friday, April 8, 2022.Lawyer Gerardo Carillo, chairman of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, told SunStar Cebu that following the response they received from PUV drivers, they plan to meet with more oil companies to join the “Gasolina Mo, Sagot Ko” project.Carillo said he will meet with representatives of Caltex and Petron this week to discuss their possible participation in the program.Last April 6, Carillo and fuel firm Phoenix launched the “Gasolina Mo, Sagot Ko project” that aims to provide a discount of at least P2 per liter on all fuel products. The initiative was created by the city government to mitigate the effects of the series of oil price hikes brought by the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine. When the project was announced, Carillo said the City planned to print 50,000 to 100,000 discount cards for interested applicants.Of the 30,000 cards that the City has distributed, around 8,000 cards were requested by “habal-habal” or motorcycle-for-hire riders and 5,000 cards were also requested by an organization of taxi drivers in the city, said Carillo.Carillo also encouraged interested PUV drivers to apply on their online portal or send a message to the Facebook page of the Sugbo Bike Lanes Board.Online applications for the fuel discount card had already reached 4,000, Carillo added.Bus drivers and delivery vehicle drivers can also avail themselves of the program, he added.Carillo said the card is valid for two months so they are planning to completely distribute them by next week. Each pocket-sized discount card is good for one driver and one vehicle, and a maximum of 20 liters can be purchased per day.The driver can consume the card in a one-time gas up or divide it depending on the maximum capacity of the vehicle.
