4 Cebu graduates bag top 10 spots in Medical Technologist Exam

THREE medical technology graduates of Velez College in Cebu City placed in the top 10 in the March 2023 Medical Technologist Licensure Examination (MTLE).

Tied for second place with a rating of 91.90 percent are Nijell T. Potencioso and Khelly Mae B. Villarin. Leonard Louwin Midel is in seventh place with three other examinees from schools outside Cebu (91.30 percent).

Meanwhile, University of Cebu (UC) Banilad campus graduate Lhorence Sucano placed third with a rating of 91.80 percent.

All 143 Velez College graduates passed the MTLE, thus earning the school a 100 percent passing rate.

The other Cebu-based schools that earned a 100 percent passing rate were Cebu Doctors’ University (95 examinees) and UC Banilad (36 examinees).

Southwestern University Phinma earned a 97.27 percent passing rate after 107 of its 110 examinees passed the MTLE.

Potencioso of Velez College told SunStar Cebu on Wednesday, March 15 that he took the MTLE while he was studying medicine at Velez College’s sister school, Cebu Institute of Medicine.

He’s now a fourth-year medicine student.

Potencioso said he did not take the MTLE immediately after graduating from medical technology in 2019 because he was busy studying medicine.

“There are 24-hour duties, sometimes 18 hours. So what I did was I enrolled in a review center. At least there would be a few times that I could attend and get notes,” he said.

Potencioso said he took pictures of his notes using his smartphone, and he reviewed them at the hospital whenever he had downtime.

Contemplating on his success at the MTLE, Potencioso advised students: “If you really want to achieve something, as long as you have perseverance, and you believe in yourself, you can do it.”

“If you really love what you’re doing, then it makes everything less difficult and it makes your journey more fruitful because you’re enjoying what you’re doing,” Potencioso said.

Potencioso dedicates his success to his family, relatives, friends and school group who supported him.
