55 Cebu City barangays report no Covid-19 transmission for 2 weeks

FIFTY-FIVE out of 80 barangays in Cebu City have reported no Covid-19 transmission for the last 14 days, local officials said on Thursday, November 25, 2021.

Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, who is also the deputy chief implementer of the city’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC), said that as of Thursday, the city had only 64 active cases reported for the last 10 days.

Garganera also corrected SunStar Cebu’s report on Wednesday, Nov. 24, that 69 Cebu City barangays have reported no Covid-19 transmission for 40 days.

What Garganera meant was that only 69 active Covid cases from the city’s 80 barangays were reported by the city in the last 14 days.

Garganera said that of the 64 active cases, 13 are symptomatic.

Two of the 13 symptomatic cases are currently admitted in a hospital situated outside Cebu City.

Garganera said of the 25 barangays with active cases, Barangay Guadalupe still has the most number with five active cases.

After Guadalupe are Barangays Kamputhaw and Talamban with four active cases each while Barangays Inayawan, Basak San Nicolas, Capitol Site and Lahug reported three active cases each.

The remaining barangays reported only one or two cases each for the past 10 days, Garganera added.

Garganera thanked the public for cooperating with the city government in its strict implementation of health protocols to ensure that another Covid-19 surge was prevented.

He also pointed to the city’s vaccination efforts as one of the reasons the number of Covid-19 cases has been slowly going down. (PAC / JKV)
