Active Covid-19 cases still below 30K

THE Department of Health (DOH) on Saturday, November 13, 2021, reported that active cases in the Philippines have remained below 30,000, with only less than 2,000 cases added to the case count.

The DOH case bulletin on Saturday said active cases in the country were at 29,382, or only one percent of the total infections in the country.

Of the active cases, 63.6 percent were mild, 16.34 percent were moderate, 10.1 percent were severe, 4.3 percent were critical and 5.6 percent were asymptomatic.

The health department also reported 1,997 fresh cases of Covid-19, bringing the country’s total caseload to 2,815,080.

A total of 238 patients succumbed to the disease that increased the country’s death toll to 45,272.

The case fatality rate stood at 1.61 percent.

The DOH also reported 1,696 recoveries on Saturday, bringing the total individuals who recovered from the disease to 2,740,426 or 97.3 percent.

The agency also said 36 percent of intensive care unit beds, 30 percent of isolation beds, 23 percent of ward beds and 21 percent of ventilators have been utilized.

In Cebu City, Emergency Operation Center deputy implementer and city councilor Joel Garganera announced that the city’s positivity rate is already at five percent for the past two weeks, which is within the threshold set by the World Health Organization (WHO).

One of the WHO’s epidemiological criteria includes that a locality must have less than five percent of samples positive for Covid-19 at least for the last two weeks.

But though he is happy with the development, Garganera urged Cebu City residents to not be complacent.

“It is good, but we should not be complacent especially because it is almost the holiday season,” Garganera said.

The DOH reported on Saturday, that only six new cases were recorded, with only 241 active cases still in the process of recovery. (JGS, CAL)
