Additional water to stabilize supply of underserved MCWD consumers

MORE than 15,000 households in Cebu City will soon enjoy reliable and potable water from the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) when the Lusaran Bulk Water Project starts to deliver 15,000 cubic meters of water daily to the water district. The completion of the bulk water project means MCWD can improve its service to the mountain barangays in the city. The additional water will also significantly increase the supply of the consumers in barangays Lahug, Apas, Camputhaw and Capitol Site. With this development, MCWD will start accepting and processing water service connection applications when the delivery of the additional supply begins. The project, which is awarded to JE Hydro and Bio-Energy Corp. last March 4, 2021, is expected to be completed in September this year. However, the contractors said they can start to deliver water to MCWD months earlier. The Lusaran Bulk Water Project sources water from the Lusaran River and uses the conventional way of treating water. The purchase of the water supply was done through competitive bidding under RA 9184 or the Government Procurement Reform Act, thus does not require an opinion from Office of Government Procurement Council (OGCC).Only joint venture projects require an OGCC opinion before it can be implemented as this is stipulated in the guidelines of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA).
