‘Ako Bisaya’ partylist rep to run for 6th district rep

AKO Bisaya Party-list Rep. Sonny Lagon has announced his plans to run for representative of the sixth district of Cebu in the May 2022 elections.

The sixth district now comprises just the towns of Cordova and Consolacion, after Mandaue City became a lone district in 2019.

On the other hand, Lagon’s wife, Daphne Arias-Lagon, a nurse by profession and former mayor of Tuburan town, and Consolacion Mayor Joannes Alegado, an obstetrician-gynecologist by profession, will be the nominees of Ako Bisaya Party-list in the 2022 elections, according to Sugbo News.

Alegado’s mother, Vice Mayor Teresa Alegado, will run for mayor next year, the post she held for three terms from 2010 to 2019.

Sugbo News said the announcements came during the 10th anniversary celebration of Ako Bisaya on Saturday, May 22, 2021, when Lagon and his wife took their oath as the newest members of the One Cebu Party, a provincial political party led by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Emmarie Ouano-Dizon is the current Cebu sixth district representative. She won the seat as a candidate under the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) political party, which had forged an alliance with Garcia’s One Cebu party in 2018.

Last March, Dizon announced her intention to run for representative of the newly created Mandaue City lone district in the House of Representatives in 2022.

President Rodrigo Duterte signed the law declaring Mandaue City a congressional district in May 2019, which means Mandaue City will have its own House representative starting in the 2022 polls.

In April, Garcia announced that she would seek reelection as governor in the 2022 elections. (PR / SunStar Cebu)
