Alcoy shortens curfew to 5 hours

THE Municipal Government of Alcoy, Cebu will implement a shorter curfew starting Saturday, March 13, 2021.

Mayor Michael Sestoso issued Executive Order 2021-013, which moves the start of curfew from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m., and it ends at 5 a.m.

Local government units in the country have imposed curfew to keep residents at their homes at night and prevent mass gatherings that could be Covid-19 infection super-spreaders.

The town executive’s order shortens the curfew by two hours from the usual seven hours. Sestoso’s order abides by the instruction of Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, who earlier had ordered mayors in 44 municipalities and six component cities (excluding the independent cities of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu) to shorten the duration of curfew in their respective areas.

The other aim of shortening the curfew is to give more operating time to businesses as the entire Cebu Province, including the independent cities, is under modified general community quarantine, the most lenient of the quarantine statuses imposed to slow down the new coronavirus transmission.

Non-Alcoy workers will also have enough time to travel back to their hometowns with the new curfew schedule.

Sestoso ordered all the tanods, village officials and town police to monitor the compliance of his new curfew order. Alcoy has eight barangays.

All business establishments in Alcoy were reminded to follow the order.

The Alcoy Municipal Government reminded the townsfolk that it is still mandatory to wear a mask or face shield to protect themselves against Sars-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19. (ANV / KAL)
