Alvarez faces former world-ranked Lopez

FILIPINO fighter Jobert Alvarez faces world-ranked bantamweight Melvin Lopez in a 10-rounder on Monday, Dec. 12 (PH time), 2022, at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.

The 33-year-old Alvarez, who’s based in Renton, Washington, is looking to bounce back after losing his last fight in the US. He lost to Ja’Rico O’Quinn by unanimous decision last April in Detroit.

Alvarez is an experienced fighter that owns a win over current World Boxing Organization (WBO) light flyweight king Jonathan Gonzalez. He also fought but lost to Mexican superstar Juan Francisco Estrada by unanimous decision.

The 25-year-old Lopez is fast-rising prospect that’s rated No. 5 by the WBO, the World Boxing Association and the International Boxing Federation.

After suffering his only career loss in 2019 in the hands of Jose Velasquez, Lopez won seven straight fights, all by stoppage.

Lopez is fresh from a second-round knockout of Victor Ruiz last September in Miami.

Alvarez is 20-3-2 with seven knockouts, while the Nicaraguan Lopez is 28-1 with 19 knockouts. (EKA)
