Araneta vs. Claveras in Tabunok

INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 7 rated light flyweight Christian Araneta faces former world title challenger Richard Claveras in the undercard of the Sanman Promotions and ZIP Boxing’s event on July 16, 2021 at the Tabunok Sports Complex in Talisay City.

Araneta and Claveras were originally slated to fight in Omega Sports Promotions’ “Kumbati 10” show on July 3, in Mandaue City.

The fight was postponed after Claveras had problems with his license.

The 26-year-old Araneta is looking to bounce back after suffering a close unanimous decisoon loss to Sivenathi Nontshinga in South Africa on April 24.

Claveras, on the other hand, is coming off a sixth round knockout of Richard Rosales in 2020.

Claveras fought for a world title in 2015. He lost to World Boxing Council light flyweight champion Pedro Guevara via a first round knockout.

Claveras also fought the likes of Andrew Moloney, Giemel Magramo, Sho Ishida and Nawaphon Kaikanha.

Araneta is 19-2 with 15 knockouts, while Claveras is 19-7-2 with 16 knockouts.

The main event features an Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation minimumweight fight between highly world ranked Melvin Jerusalem (16-2, 10 KOs) and Toto Landero (11-5-2, 2 KOs) in a rematch.

Dave Apolinario (14-0, 9 KOs) locks horns with Charlie Malupangue (9-4-3, 6 KOs) for the vacant World Boxing Association Asia flyweight belt in the co-headliner.
