Attorney Oaminal posts, but not about ‘City Hall Kurakot Gang’

Clarence Paul Oaminal — former vice chairman of the Dangerous Drugs Board, a Cabinet undersecretary, and an anti-corruption advocate — appeared on Facebook Sunday, March 6, under his social media name “Task Force Haring Tupas.”His message was “A blessed Sunday!” Pacifist note, a far cry from his usual activist and abrasive potshots, the most widely known of which dwelt on his crusade against a “Kurakot Gang at (Cebu) City Hall.”But Oaminal, 51, died on Aug. 4, 2021. Somebody with access to his phone must have sent the message, but for a moment it struck some people to wonder if one could still do Facebook up, or down, there.A few of us must have scrambled to check if TF Haring Tupas’ timeline is still there — it is and some people were using it for some posts after his death. But, here’s the thing: The last post bearing the name TF Haring Tupas was dated Feb. 8, 2021, a blast against the Carbon Market project, whose privatization he opposed. Last Sunday’s was a bit of a shocker: It drew 106 comments, wishing Attorney Clarence Paul to “rest in peace.” Highly unlikely he will, if he doesn’t quit social media.Still, wouldn’t some people want to see his posts about the “Kurakot Gang,” which to this day remains one of City Hall’s mysteries? – Pachico A.
