Authorities apprehend nearly 8,000 individuals for quarantine violations

NEARLY 8,000 individuals were arrested by Cebu City authorities for violating health protocols and curfew in the first 29 days of August, during this period of modified enhanced community quarantine.

This was announced by Raquel Bohol-Arce, head of the Prevention Restoration Order Beautification and Enhancement (Probe) team.

The Cebu City Covid Action Team (CCCAT) apprehended 2,651 violators, while the Cebu City Police Office personnel apprehended 5,133 individuals with the assistance of tanods.

Of the number, 3,673 were apprehended in the South District, which comprises 34 barangays, while 4,201 were caught in the North District, which comprises 46 barangays.

Arce said the most common of the offenses were non-wearing of masks in public places and violating the city’s curfew.

Violators of the curfew and health protocols in the first seven months of 2021 stood at only 14,884. For the month of August alone, the number of violators apprehended was 7,784, more than 50 percent of the number of violators caught from January to July.

Violators can choose to either pay a fine of P500 or render five-hour community service.

A total of 22,668 people have been apprehended by the CCCAT and CCPO in the city from Jan. 1 to Aug. 29. (PAC / KAL)
