BBM, Sara seek Gwen’s support

FORMER senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio openly courted Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia during the Governor’s Night of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) held at the Social Hall of the Cebu Provincial Capitol Friday, November 26, 2021.

Marcos jokingly said in his speech that he was there, together with Carpio, to talk sincerely with the governor and added, “Inaantay namin ang matamis mong oo.” (We are awaiting your sweet yes.)

“That’s the very first time na nililigawan ako (that I’ve been courted) in public,” Garcia told reporters later.

However, the governor made clear that her political party One Cebu has not yet made a decision on the national candidates to support because they do not want to make the same mistake in the past when they prematurely decided on their choice for President.

“At that time, there had not been enough consultation, first and foremost among the family,” Garcia said.

Garcia had mentioned in the past that her brother and Deputy Speaker Pablo John Garcia was considering Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso, while her son-in-law, Cebu 5th District Rep. Duke Frasco, was naturally sympathetic to Marcos Jr. and the governor’s daughter Liloan Mayor Christina Frasco was the spokesperson of Carpio.

“If we agree as a family, then we will be an even stronger political party,” Garcia added.

Several key personalities attended the event, such as former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque Jr., who is running for senator; House Majority Floor Leader Martin Romualdez; LMP President Luis Chavit Singson; the Frasco couple, and the mayors of the different municipalities in Central Visayas.
