Beauty queens to get aid from Cebu City, says councilor

THE Cebu City Council will give financial and technical support to newly crowned Ms. Universe Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez and Ms. World Philippines Tracy Maureen Perez who are set to represent the country in international pageants late this year.

Both Gomez and Perez represented Cebu City in their respective bids.

Cebu City Councilor Jessica Resch, who heads the Council’s committee head on Youth and Sports Development, said that though it is a bit late, it is just proper for them to support Perez and Gomez who brought pride and joy to the City for their recent achievements.

Resch said this in her privilege speech during the Council’s regular session on Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2021,

“Those like her (Gomez), who despite not getting a single cent of support would gamble everything and wear Cebu City proudly across her chest,” Resch said noting that Gomez did not openly inform anyone that she was “scrimping” on her budget for the pageant.

“She (Gomez) never faltered in her resolution to being home the crown for her beloved Cebu City-truly a class act, with head up high-a true definition of Cebuana,” Resch added.

Gomez, 26, succeeded Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo of Iloilo City.

The Cebuana beauty will represent the Philippines in the prestigious 70th Miss Universe pageant in Eilat, Israel in December 2021, where Andrea Meza of Mexico will crown her successor.

While Perez bested Perez bested 43 hopefuls to win the pageant as Miss World Philippines 2021 despite falling on the floor twice the Coronation Night held at the Subic Bay Exhibition and Convention Center Hall A on Oct. 3.

Perez will be representing the country in the 70th Miss World 2021 in Puerto Rico.

Aside from Gomez and Perez, the council also commended Dr. Shaila Rebortera, who represented Talisay City, who finished as Miss Multinational Philippines 2021 during this year’s Miss World Philippines pageant; and Steffi Rose Aberasturi, who represented Cebu Province, who finished as second runner up during this year’s Miss Universe Philippines.
