Big fight for unbeaten Zamboanga

UNBEATEN Filipina prospect Denice Zamboanga faces a tough test in former UFC fighter Seo Hee Ham in her quarterfinal round fight of the ONE Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix in the all-female ONE Championship: “Empower” show on May 28, 2021 at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in Singapore.

Zamboanga is currently ranked No. 1 in the atomweight division and is eager to get her title shot at current champion Angela Lee, who’s sidelined because of her pregnancy. However, she needs to win the ONE Women’s Atomweight Grand Prix before she gets her title shot.

The 24-year-old Zamboanga has been making waves in ONE’s lightest weight division by winning all three of her bouts, which include an impressive win over veteran and former title contender Mei Yamaguchi.

Zamboanga will have her hands full against Ham, who has fought in the pinnacle of MMA, the UFC.

Ham had four fights in the UFC from 2014 to 2016. She’s currently on a six-fight winning streak and is coming off a split decision win over Ayaka Hamasaki to win the Rizin Fighting Federation atomweight title.

Zamboanga is 8-0, wherein five of her wins were from either a knockout or submission. The 34-year-old Ham, on the other hand, is 23-8.

The winner of the Zamboanga and Ham fight will face the winner of the rematch between No. 3 ranked Alyona Rassohyna (13-4) and Stamp Fairtex (5-1).

The other fights in ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix are No. 2 ranked Meng Bo (17-5) vs. unbeaten Indian prospect Ritu Phogat (4-0) and unbeaten Japanese Itsuki Hirata (4-0) vs. American Alyse Anderson (5-1).

ONE Championship: “Empire” is headlined by ONE Women’s strawweight titleholder Xiong Jing Nan (15-2) against decorated BJJ specialist Michelle Nicolini (6-2). (EKA)
