Bookkeeper nabbed over non-remittance of colleagues’ SSS contributions

A BOOKKEEPER was arrested for allegedly embezzling money intended for the Social Security System (SSS) contributions of her fellow workers in Cordova town, eastern Cebu on Friday morning, August 5, 2022.Marilyn Regner, 37, of Barangay Gabi, Cordova town, was arrested by local police past 10 a.m. on Friday while she was talking with her family inside her house.PCpl. Roy Roberts served the arrest warrant issued by Lapu-Lapu City Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) Branch 1 Judge Genevieve Lawas against Regner for eight counts of estafa with recommended bail of P36,000 for each count. In December 2019, Regner was hired as a bookkeeper and time keeper for a private resort in Barangay Bankal, Lapu-Lapu City.Part of her job was to remit the contributions of her fellow employees to the SSS which had accumulated to P50,000, but she failed to do it.Regner said she was forced to commit the crime because of her low salary.“Gipa-atubang ni siya og abogado para i-settle nila ug papirmahon siya nga mobayad, pero wala niya natuman. Mao to gikasohan siya, unya nalusotan siya ug warrant,” Roberts added.(She already signed a promissory note in front of a lawyer to make up for the losses but she failed to comply with her promise, thus a case was filed against her followed by the issuance of an arrest warrant).
