Bornea faces journeyman Meneses in Mexico

INTERNATIONAL Boxing Federation super flyweight No. 1 rated Jade Bornea keeps himself busy and takes on Mexican journeyman Ivan Meneses in an activity fight on Aug. 19 in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.Bornea is closing in on a world title shot and is mandatory challenger of the IBF super flyweight belt, currently around the waist of Fernando Martinez.The 27-year-old Bornea could earn a title shot at the winner of the rematch between Martinez and former titleholder Jerwin Ancajas, which reportedly will be on Oct. 8.Bornea is also ranked No. 12 in the World Boxing Council and No. 14 by the World Boxing Organization.Bornea fought on Jan. 14 in Mexico. He knocked out Mohammed Obbadi in the third round.The 32-year-old Meneses should give Bornea a good sweat.Although Meneses hasn’t won a fight since a stoppage win over Armando Hernandez in 2017, he has fought some of the cream of the crop in his weight division.He has shared the ring with the likes of Julio Cesar Martinez, Felix Alvarado, Pedro Guevara, Roman Gonzalez and Adrian Hernandez.Bornea is 17-0 with 11 knockouts, while Meneses is 19-22-2 with 11 knockouts.
