‘Bull’ Cañete out to stop Llover in Manny Pacquiao’s ‘Blow by Blow’

BENNY Cañete wants to bully and end fellow unbeaten prospect Kenneth Llover’s night as they face off in 10-round bantamweight contest in the main event of Manny Pacquiao’s “Blow by Blow” on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2023, at the Mandaluyong City College in Mandaluyong City.

Cañete, nicknamed “The Bull” for his muscular physique, wants to capitalize on his strength against the leaner Llover.

“Benny is very capable of winning. Benny is stronger and has faced more quality opponents. Llover will run,” Omega Boxing Gym head coach Jinggoy Junco, Cañete’s trainer, told SunStar Cebu.

Since turning pro in 2020, the 22-year-old Cañete has been dominating his competition. He owns with fellow prospect Reycar Auxilio and experienced John Kenan Villaflor.

Cañete knocked out all but one of his opponents, Auxilio. He plans on adding Llover to his list of knockout victims.

“It depends on the situation,” said Junco after being asked if Cañete will knock out Llover. “We want to score a technical knockout in the middle of the fight in the later rounds.”

Cañete is coming off a fourth round technical knockout of Jovanie Tagusi.

However, Llover won’t be as easy to stop because he’s a very talented boxer from the Peñalosa Boxing Gym of two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa.

Llover also has quality wins over previously unbeaten Ridick Tablanza, Miller Alapormina and Jover Amistoso.

His latest win was a second round stoppage over journeyman Jonathan Francisco, who stopped in two rounds.

Cañete is 7-0 with six knockouts, while 20-year-old Llover is 7-0 with five knockouts.

In the undercard, Lawrence Dumam-ag (5-0, 4 KOs) slugs it out with Christian Gagarin (3z1, 3 KOs), Harry Omac (5-1, 2 KOs) squares off with Ramcie Mondala (5-2, 2 KOs), Antonio Uy (3-0, 3 KOs) locks horns with Mac Pescador (2-0) and Cebuano Richie Cacanog (2-0, 2 KOs) is up against Jimmy Ramisco Cannu (2-1).
