THE Cebu Provincial Government will install solar-powered LED street lights all over the Province to the tune of P10 million.And the project’s first beneficiary is Madridejos town in Bantayan Island, according to Sugbo News, the official news platform of the Capitol.Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia led the groundbreaking for the concrete lamp post pedestal in Barangay Talangnan in the northern Cebu town on Saturday, March 5, 2022.Also to get solar-powered LED street lights are the two other towns on Bantayan Island, which are Bantayan and Sta. Fe.Last Dec. 14, during the yearend assembly of the Liga ng mga Barangay-Cebu Province at the City Sports Club Cebu in Cebu City, Garcia had announced plans to illuminate barangay roads.Garcia said the Province had initially bought about 2,500 solar lamps, with a repeat order of that in the works.She said priority for the lamps would be given to paved barangay roads.The governor said then that the barangays of Cebu Province would receive P1.5 billion worth of aid from the Cebu Provincial Government in 2022, as well as assistance for water development and road concreting, after the Cebu Provincial Board passed an unprecedented provincial budget of P18.3 billion for 2022.But Typhoon Odette (Rai) struck two days later on Dec. 16, forcing the Capitol to focus on the short-term priorities of providing food and reconstruction assistance to residents affected by the powerful storm, as well as power generation assistance to local government units to help stem water supply, communication and other issues.
