Car turns turtle along N. Bacalso Ave. after driver ‘falls asleep’

A VEHICLE turned turtle after it rammed into the center island on N. Bacalso Avenue in Barangay Bulacao, Talisay City on Thursday morning, October 13, 2022.

The driver, 64-year-old Luis Azarraga, was believed to have fallen asleep behind the wheel.

Jonathan Tumulak, head of the City of Talisay-Traffic Operations Development Authority, said Azarraga, who lives in Sitio Pinggan, Barangay Pakigne in the southern town of Minglanilla, Cebu, suffered minor bruises but was relatively unhurt.

Tumulak said Azarraga’s vehicle also hit a multi-purpose vehicle driven by 28-year-old Miguel Louie Estrella, a resident of Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Tunghaan, Minglanilla.

Estrella told Superbalita Cebu that Azarraga’s vehicle kept stopping and then it would suddenly overtake.

He said he tried to keep a safe distance. But when Azarraga’s vehicle struck the center island, Estrella said it turned turtle in his direction.

Since it happened so fast, he said he couldn’t avoid it and his vehicle was hit.

Tumulak said the matter was settled amicably after Azarraga promised to pay for the damages incurred as a result of the accident. (BBT, PJB)
