Carcedo KOs Siesmundo, wins WBF belt

JHUNRICK Carcedo scored a rousing third-round technical knockout win over fellow prospect Antonio Siesmundo and claimed the vacant World Boxing Foundation (WBF) super-lightweight title in the main event of “Kumong Bol-anon VI” last Saturday night, July 23, 2022, at the Brgy. Cogon Gym in Tagbilaran City, Bohol.Coming in as the visiting fighter, Carcedo knew that he had to do a little bit more against the hometown fighter. He immediately made his presence felt in the third round with a left uppercut to the head that dropped Siesmundo.The 23-year-old Carcedo, who fights out of the Sanman Gym in Gen. Santos City, then followed it up with a solid counter left uppercut and a left hook to drop Siesmundo anew. Referee Jerrold Tomeldan counted up to five and waved off the fight at the 2:33 mark after seeing that the 27-year-old Siesmundo was unfit to continue.Carcedo improved to 8-1 with eight knockouts, while Siesmundo fell to 8-4 with seven knockouts.International Boxing Federation (IBF) No. 7-rated light flyweight Regie Suganob made quick work of game Indonesian opponent Asyer Aluman with a first-round knockout in the show’s co-main feature.The fight was competitive while it lasted, with both fighters having their moments. Suganob started to gain momentum later in the round and landed some combinations. Suganob finally caught Aluman with a vicious left to the body that dropped him. Referee Romar Embodo counted out Aluman at the 2:38 mark.Suganob continues his hot streak and is now 11-0 with four knockouts, while Aluman dropped to 3-3-1 with two knockouts.In the undercard, Virgel Vitor (18-2, 11 KOs) stopped tough veteran Ivor Lastrilla (12-3-1, 7 KOs), Angilou Dalogdog (5-0, 2 KOs) captured the biggest win of his career after beating gatekeeper Vergilio Silvano (12-9-1, 12 KOs) by unanimous decision, Rodel Suganob (7-0-1, 3 KOs) frustrated Ian Ligutan’s (6-17-3, 3 KOs) opening night with a stoppage, Pablito Balidio (4-3-3, 1 KO) settled for a draw with John May Acope (2-1-1), battle-scarred veteran Jason Tinampay (12-16-1, 10 KOs) knocked out Eric Pulgo (5-4-1, 3 KOs) in the second round, and Christian Balunan (4-0, 2 KOs) beat Wenlyn Rosales (2-3, 1 KO) by unanimous decision.
