MOTORCYCLES were finally allowed entry into the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) for the first time on Saturday, July 2, 2022.In a statement, officials of the CCLEX said motorcycles have been given their own lane marked by a blue line and a toll booth located at the right side of both the Cebu City-bound and Cordova-bound lanes at the toll plaza.Motorcycles, which are categorized by the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway Corporation (CCLEC) as Vehicle Class 1M, are required to pay a discounted toll rate of P60 upon crossing.“The CCLEX still accepts cash payments now, but it is already implementing a partial electronic collection. Those with RFID can conveniently pass the toll plaza,” CCLEX said.Safety guidelinesTo ensure the safety of motorcycles entering Cebu’s third bridge to Mactan Island, traffic measures have been put in place at the CCLEX.CCLEC said the 8.9-kilometer modern toll expressway connecting Cebu City and the town of Cordova is a traffic discipline zone and standard traffic and safety regulations are being strictly implemented.“The welfare and safety of motorists are our utmost priority. The measures we have put in place are meant to make sure that all our motorists will have a safe, seamless, and pleasurable journey while using the expressway,” said CCLEC President and General Manager Allan Alfon.CCLEC is asking motorcycle owners to only use the designated motorcycle lane and follow the speed limit on the expressway, which is set at 40 kilometers per hour (kph) on the main bridge and curves and 60 kph on the causeway.Overtaking is also not allowed.National lawsTo protect them from untoward incidents, motorcycle owners are required to wear proper riding gear such as standard protective helmet (full face, modular, off-road, half, open-face, dual sport) provided for under Republic Act (RA) 10054 or the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009 and LTO Administrative Order No. AHS-2008-015 that governs the use and operation of motorcycles on highways.The wearing of flip flops, sandals, slippers, or being barefoot is also prohibited.Back-riding is allowed as long as there will only be one person on the passenger’s seat. Children can ride at the back of the motorcycle provided that they have helmets and can comfortably reach the standard foot peg as prescribed by RA 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code and RA 10666 or the Children’s Safety on Motorcycles Act of 2015.Motorcycles carrying loads will not be allowed as it blocks the side mirror and covers the taillight and signal light.CCLEC is also asking motorcycle owners to check their vehicles (tires, controls, lights, oil, chassis, stands) before hitting the road.
