CCPO to provide security for Bar Exams, COC filing

THE Cebu City police are preparing to provide security for the upcoming bar examinations in November 2021.

The Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) met with the representatives of the Supreme Court on Sept. 15 to come up with a security planning guide as three universities in Cebu have been chosen as venues for the bar exam. These are the University of San Carlos, University of Cebu-Banilad and the University of San Jose-Recoletos.

According to Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, CCPO deputy director for operations, both the police and the city government are preparing for the bar exam which will be conducted in Cebu for the first time.

The police anticipate that examinees who are residents of Bohol Province and the neighboring Visayas regions will take the exam in Cebu.

Parilla added that they have yet to decide how many police officers to deploy to the three universities.

Meanwhile, the police are also preparing for the filing of the certificates of candidacy (COCs) by the candidates in Cebu from Oct. 1 to 8, 2021.

Parilla said there are police who have been deployed to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the city ever since the voters’ registration began.

Parilla warned that the candidates are forbidden from bringing supporters with them to the Comelec office as this would violate the rule against mass gathering.

The Comelec, the police and the military will also meet for the Regional Joint Security Control Conference in preparation for the elections in 2022.

Under Comelec Resolution 10717, when filing the COC, candidates or their authorized representatives may bring only two persons with them. Those seeking national positions may bring three persons. (AYB, CCP)
