Cebu City Council seals proposal for SRP roundabout near SM Seaside

THE Cebu City Council has approved the proposed construction of a roundabout at the South Road Properties (SRP) in Barangay Mambaling.

The proposal was made by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7 to ease traffic in the area.

DPWH 7 Director Edgar Tabacon presented the project before the members of the City Council on Wednesday, Aug. 18, 2021.

City Councilor Jerry Guardo, infrastructure committee chairman, authored the resolution to approve the DPWH 7’s proposal to construct the roundabout.

Guardo said the proposed site of the roundabout project is along the SRP junction of F. Vestil St. near SM Seaside City Cebu. It has 40 meters in diameter and a proposed budget of P600 million.

The proposed roundabout will have four lanes that lead to north and south directions.

The DPWH 7 will extend the reclamation area to widen the lanes and add one more. The northbound and southbound roads have three lanes each.

Guardo said a one-kilometer boulevard and a pedestrian overpass were also included in the design presented by the DPWH.

Once the proposed project gets a budget from the National Government, Guardo said the project could be completed within three years.

The proposal will be forwarded to the National Economic and Development Authority for budget prioritization.

Guardo said the proposed project aims to ease the traffic in the area and shorten the U-turn slot of the motorists.

Currently, the motorists passing by SRP take their U-turn near the SRP viaduct.

Guardo also assured the motorists that once the civil works for the proposed project start, the authorities would make sure that it would not cause traffic congestion in the area. (JJL, PAC)
