CEBU City’s public and private hospitals are now reporting fewer Covid-19 admissions.
According to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the occupancy rate of Covid-designated rooms in Cebu City’s 15 public and private hospitals was only 25.4 percent on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Of the 932 Covid-19 beds in all of the city’s hospitals, only 237 are currently occupied.
This is the lowest critical care utilization rate that has been reported since the city experienced another surge in Covid-19 cases in January this year.
The 11 private hospitals in the City reported a 16.4 percent occupancy rate, meaning out of the 545 Covid-19 beds, only 107 are currently occupied.
“We are experiencing low occupancy rates in our private hospitals, the lowest so far since January. While our quarantine facilities like our Noah (New Normal Oasis for Adaptation and a Home) Complex, CCQC (Cebu City Quarantine Center) and our BICs (Barangay Isolation Centers) are reporting a combined 30 percent occupancy rate. This is a good indication because we are also concentrating our massive vaccination campaign on our senior citizens,” said Cebu City Councilor Joel Garganera, who is the EOC’s deputy chief implementer.
As of Tuesday, April 20, the City had 701 active cases, majority of which are currently housed in isolation hotels, quarantine facilities and BICs.
Of the city’s 80 barangays, Lahug is currently on top in number of active cases, with 47 active Covid-19 cases.
Barangay Guadalupe, which had the most number of active cases at the start of the pandemic, is now at second place with 46 active cases.
With the start of the vaccination of senior citizens, Garganera urged the city’s elderly to avoid being complacent even if they have already gotten their first jabs.
Senior citizens must still observe the minimum health protocols even after they are vaccinated, Garganera said. (PAC / JKV)
