Cebu City to offer 2nd booster shots once DOH releases guidelines

THE Cebu City Health Department (CHD) will soon offer a second dose of booster shots once the Department of Health (DOH) releases the guidelines for its implementation.Dr. Jeffrey Ibones, CHD head, said on Monday, April 18, 2022, that the City is prepared to administer second booster shots of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) vaccine.According to Ibones, the guidelines from DOH may be released within this week or by next week following the implementation of the program at the National Capital Region.Ibones said almost 200,000 individuals in the city have already received their booster shots. There is a big possibility that these individuals would also want to be inoculated with the second booster shot, Ibones added. In a separate interview, Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH Central Visayas’ chief pathologist, told SunStar Cebu that she is optimistic that more people would want to get vaccinated now that the National Government has approved the use of second booster shots against Covid-19.She said such development is very timely since a second booster shot further helps protect the highly vulnerable population from Covid-19.Last March 29, the Food and Drug Administration granted the emergency use authorization for second booster shots for the senior citizens, the immunocompromised, and frontline health workers. On Monday, Acting Presidential Spokesperson Martin Andanar clarified that the administration of an additional dose of vaccine was not about the potential surge of new Covid-19 cases in the upcoming elections.Andanar said the rolling out of secondary booster shots is the government’s scientific response to waning immunity.
