Cebu investment center gears up for more B2B, mentorship

WITH the extension of the Cebu Investment Development Concierge Center (CIDCC) project until June 2023, the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) expects to facilitate more business-to-business matching and mentorship programs next year on the back of a recovering local economy.

Jay Yuvallos, CCCI’s vice president for business development, said the extension will allow the chamber and the Cebu City government to fully implement the foundational requirements for Cebu as a major investment gateway in Asia Pacific.

CCCI saw two noteworthy business-to-business networking meetings that occurred this year. One was with the Israeli business delegation comprising seven companies in the water sector followed by the India business delegation comprising 22 companies.

“We expect to see more activities like these next year which the CIDCC will help facilitate. We aim to bring in more local and foreign investors to the city,” said Yuvallos.

CIDCC serves as a one-stop trade and investment shop for businesses and investors interested to locate and invest in the city and Cebu province. The Cebu City Council approved a resolution sponsored by Councilor Noel Wenceslao extending the CIDCC project from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.

“With the extension of the CIDCC project until June 2023, its pillar on ecosystem support will conduct a series of training programs for small and medium enterprises, cooperatives and livelihood groups to accelerate the rebuilding of livelihoods and businesses so the local economy of Cebu City and Province of Cebu can steadily bounce back and grow from the different disruptions in the last three years,” the CCCI said.

Financial literacy

Recently, over 80 Carbon market vendors were immersed in financial literacy and management and basic accounting and bookkeeping trainings through the CIDCC in partnership with the Cebu City government to help them professionalize their business operations.

CIDCC also mounted 15 entrepreneurial classes on blended format that graduated 719 mentees facilitated by Famcor Franchise Management and Executive Development Corp. This big-brother mentorship connected the mentees to a network of government enablers.
