Cebu logs few crime incidents from March 25 to May 10

POLICE recorded only 150 crime incidents in Cebu Province from March 25 to May 10, 2022.This was a 76.5 percent decrease from 639 cases recorded in the same period in 2019 and 73.3 percent decrease from 563 cases in 2016.Local candidates’ campaign period started last March 25 and it ended on May 7. The Election Day took place on Monday, May 9, which the police described as generally peaceful.The Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) recorded only 30 physical injury cases in the March 25-May 10 period (174 in 2016 and 166 in 2019); 22 rape cases (35 in 2016 and 58 in 2019); and 23 robbery cases (112 in 2016 and 91 in 2019).Data from CPPO excludes numbers from the police offices of Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu cities.The CPPO records further showed that there were only 55 theft cases from March 25 to May 10 (186 in 2016 and 264 in 2019); four homicide cases (five in 2016 and six in 2019); 12 murder cases (28 in 2016 and 30 in 2019); and three motorcycle theft cases (23 in 2016 and 21 in 2019).CPPO Director Col. Engelbert Soriano said their security preparations for the general elections contributed to the drop in the crime incidents in the province for 55 days.
