Cebu Provincial Government plans to acquire books for students

IN LINE with the plan to return to in-person classes in some areas of Cebu province, the Cebu Provincial Government is preparing for the purchase of books for students.

This was announced by the Capitol through its information office.

The books that the Capitol plans to purchase cover the subjects of good manners and right conduct and social studies. These will be used by students in Grades 1 and 2 as well as students in Grades 11 and 12.

For kindergartens, the Capitol will buy reading books for them.

To ensure that the content of each book is accurate, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia decided to form a technical working group (TWG), which will check the books and ensure their quality.

The TWG will have to make sure also that the price of each book is not expensive and fits the curriculum.

The TWG is composed of seven members—two from the Department of Education (DepEd), two from the Provincial Board (PB), each from the League of Municipalities of the Philippines Cebu Chapter, Cebu Parents and Teachers Association and business sector.

PB Christopher Baricuatro, chairman of the Commission on Higher and Technical Education, said the TWG will recommend the books and these will be purchased after the governor’s approval.

The Provincial Government also plans the English version of books to make students fluent in the English language, which Garcia wants as the language of instruction in schools in Cebu Province.

The DepEd 7 has submitted the list of 50 schools for the first batch of schools that are ready for face-to-face classes in the 2021-2022 school year. These schools are in the towns in Cebu Province, including the cities of Toledo, Bogo and Carcar. (ANV / KAL)
