LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Junard Chan said on Thursday, April 8, 2021, that the person who tore history-related decals on one of the pillars of the Marcelo Fernan Bridge was already known.
The person was a woman Chan described as having a mental disability.
No complaints will be filed against the woman, considering her condition, Chan said.
The decals were installed by the City for the observance of the 500th anniversary of Kadaugan sa Mactan on April 27.
Chan said the woman was identified through the security camera footage and a resident living near the bridge saw the woman.
To prevent a recurrence of the incident, Chan has already ordered the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office to place personnel under the Marcelo Fernan Bridge.
Tanods in Barangay Pusok will also help in preventing the woman from approaching the bridge’s pillars again.
The City Government will return the woman to her family. The woman often frequented the grounds under the bridge, according to Pusok residents who are familiar with her.
The person who identified the woman in the footage will get a reward of P10,000 from Chan’s personal funds.
The decals show designs that portray Christianity and Kadaugan sa Mactan. They were placed on three pillars of the bridge on the side of Lapu-Lapu City. Two of the decals were donated by Smart Communications Inc. and the other by a fraternity. (GCM / KAL)
