Chan orders police to strictly implement curfew following incidents involving minors

LAPU-LAPU City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has directed the police to strictly implement the curfew for minors following the recent robbery and mauling incidents in the city.Chan made the marching order after three individuals, including two minors, were arrested Monday, September 26, 2022, for allegedly stealing the earnings of a blind person in two separate instances, the latest of which took place while the latter was reportedly selling candles at Muelle Osmeña wharf in Lapu-Lapu City last Sunday evening. The mayor also noted that his office received a report of a mauling incident involving a minor that recently occurred in Barangay Babag. With this, Chan ordered the police to round up and rescue the minors roaming around the city, particularly in the interior roads in different barangays within the curfew hours between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. the following day.”Ato na pod nga gimanduan ang mga barangay nga i-mobilize ang mga barangay tanod nga magroving matag gabie. Basta seguridad na ang topic, zero tolerance gyud ta ana,” Chan said.(We also ordered the barangays to mobilize their tanods by conducting a roving patrol every evening. As long as security is concerned, we are zero tolerance to that).”Kung adunay makit-an nga mga minors nga naglibod suroy lagpas sa alas 10 sa gabii hangtud sa alas 5 sa buntag, ato silang sikopon ug i-rescue kay una, gipalayo nato sila gikan sa mga dautan nga posibleng mahitabo kanila ug ikaduha, tungod sa kamingaw na nianang orasa prone pod sila nga makamugna og plano nga dautan sama sa mga mitulis ni Veronica,” he added.(For those minors who will be found wandering beyond 10 p.m. until 5 a.m., we will arrest them and rescue them because first, we keep them away from the bad things that might happen to them and second, they are also prone to come up with a dirty plan during the wee hours like those who robbed Veronica)Based on the city’s existing ordinance, Chan said exemptions will be given to minors who are accompanied by their parents or during emergency situation. The mayor stressed that there should be police visibility in public places in the city, particularly at night to strengthen security since he does not want another similar incident to happen in the future. These areas include the plaza under the bridge, Muelle Osmeña, Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ) and Tamiya, among others.
