Clarin downs Misamis Oriental in Mindanao leg of VisMin Cup

Clarin took down the fancied Misamis Oriental, 73-63, in the 2021 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup Mindanao Leg on Thursday evening at the Provincial Gymnasium in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Clarin grabbed the upper hand in the third canto as they uncorked a 13-6 blast to bring a 50-34 lead into the fourth period. Clarin poured it on and brought the lead to a high of 21 after Marvin Hayes canned a jumper with 7:06 left in the game.

MisOr Brew Authoritea, though, made things a little bit interesting as they brought the deficit down to 10, 52-62, with just 3:50 remaining. However, Clarin was undeterred and eventually cruised to the win.

“Noong naibaba ng MisOr yung lamang sa sampu, sinabi ko lang na tulad ng simula namin na strong kaya dapat hanggang matapos strong pa rin,” said Clarin head coach Miguel Borilla Jr.

Carlo Lastimosa led Clarin with 15 points while Marvin Hayes came off the bench and put up 12 markers and six rebounds in 15 minutes of action. Also reaching double figures for the Sto. Nino were John Wilson and Pamboy Raymundo, with 11 and 10 points, respectively, with the latter also dishing nine assists.

Ronjay Buenafe delivered 13 markers, eight rebounds, six assists, two blocks, and a steal while JR Cawaling got 11 for MisOr.

On Sunday, both teams will be back in action as MisOr faces Iligan at 1 p.m., followed by Clarin’s matchup against Roxas at 3 p.m.
