The 26-year-old Demecillo overwhelmed Lindog, who’s coming into the fight with a three-fight winning streak. He bloodied Lindog’s nose that forced the ring physician to end the bout in the 54-second mark of the seventh.
“Carlo had an impressive performance last night,” Big Yellow Boxing Gym head coach Christopher “Ping-Ping” Tepora, Demecillo’s trainer, told SunStar Cebu. “The plan of his manager and promoter, Seth Oliver Tio, is to give him a regional title fight next year.”
Demecillo started out the year with an eighth-round technical knockout loss to Sho Ishida in Japan. Following the loss, Demecillo fought unbeaten prospect BJ Wild via split decision.
Demecillo, the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) Asia-Pacific Youth bantamweight champion, is now 16-6-2 with nine knockouts, while Lindog dropped to 8-14-1 with five knockouts.
Toledo City’s fighting cop Jusue Bastillada made quick work of Matthew Fondales and stopped him in the opening round of the featured four-round contest.
Bastillada ended Fondales’ night at the 2:49 mark of the first round.
Bastillada bounced back from his first career defeat and improved to 4-1 with two knockouts, while Fondales fell to 1-4.
In the undercard, Rhonvex Capuloy (9-2-1, 6 KOs) fought Reymond Empic (7-6-1, 3 KOs) to a split draw; Anthony Gilbuela (5-2-2, 1 KO) settled to a majority draw with former world title challenger Vergilio Silvano (21-10-2, 12 KOs); Ramil Roda (1-0-2) also fought Dariel Diamante (0-1-1) to a majority draw; John Kevin Jimenez (2-0, 2 KOs) demolished Jelou Libres (0-2) in two rounds; and Ulymark Moras (1-1, 1 KO) knocked out Zaire Espedilla (0-3) in the show’s curtain-raiser.
Some of the proceeds of the boxing show will go to charity for children with special needs. /
