DepEd 7 offers online workshop, training for student journalists

A TOTAL of 330 delegates from Central Visayas are set to join the three-day National Conference for Campus Journalism, which will be held online from Aug. 11 to 13, 2021.

Department of Education (DepEd) 7 Director Salustiano Jimenez said the National Conference for Campus Journalism will take place in lieu of the annual National Schools Press Conference (NSPC), which will not be possible this year because of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic.

He said this will be the first time that an online workshop and training will be held instead of a competition.

He said there will be 17 events or workshops for this year’s national conference, which will range from writing to broadcast journalism.

As part of its preparation, the DepEd 7 is scheduled to hold a convocation on Monday, Aug. 9.

Jimenez said this is a very good opportunity for student journalists to continue to hone their talents despite the pandemic-induced lockdown.

“DepEd is also trying our best for this. So that the honing of the talents of our learners will be continued especially in writing and communication,” he said.

“To all our learners, our participants and our teachers and supervisors, laban lang g’yod ta and we’ll continue this activity in a different way,” he added.

Last year, delegates of the NSPC and the National Festival of Talent (NFOT) 2020 underwent a quarantine period after one of the officials who attended the NFOT tested positive for Covid-19.

Last year’s NSPC and NFOT were held in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan Valley and Ilagan City, Isabela from March 9 to 13. (WBS)
