DILG award to inspire brgys, says 2 village chiefs

TWO Mandaue City village chiefs whose barangays were awarded a Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) vowed to continue improving their services in behalf of their constituents.Barangay Subangdaku village chief Ernie Manatad and Barangay Tabok village chief Maliquias Soco both said that receiving the SGLG is a big achievement for their offices.Manatad, who is also Mandaue City’s Association of Barangay Councils (ABC) president, told SunStar Cebu that he felt accomplished and happy upon receiving word that his barangay was awarded with the SGLG.For Soco, he didn’t expect that his barangay would be awarded with the SGLG.Combating corruptionWhen asked about the importance of having good governance, both Manatad and Soco stated that having good and honest leadership is essential in gaining public trust and growth, stressing corruption as a blockage to any community’s development.“Corruption is the evil that challenges everyone. It is a human weakness and reality that we have to counter and fight seriously to stop it from destroying the common and general welfare,” said Manatad.Subangdaku and Tabok are among the nine barangays from Cebu that passed the 2021 SGLG assessment by the DILG.The other barangays in Cebu that were awarded with the SGLG are Budla-an in Cebu City, Bankal in Lapu-Lapu City, Tugas in Madridejos town, To-ong and Calambua in San Remigio town, Mohon in Sogod, and Paknaan also in Mandaue City.ParametersThe SGLG is a progressive assessment system by the DILG that gives recognition for the remarkable local government performances across government bodies such as the barangays.To receive the SGLG seal, some of the parameters DILG will be looking into are the aspects of peace and order, the transparency of financial management and accountability, level of disaster preparedness, business friendliness, and social and environmental protection of a government body.
