DILG lauds 15 Cebu LGUs for financial transparency

FIFTEEN local government units (LGUs) in Cebu Province were recognized by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) for passing the 2021 Good Financial Housekeeping.These LGUs are the cities of Carcar, Danao, Naga and Talisay and the towns of Catmon, Cordova, Liloan, Madridejos, Medellin, Moalboal, Ronda, San Fernando, Santa Fe, Santander and Tabuelan.DILG’s Good Financial Housekeeping award aims to recognize LGUs with good performance in financial transparency. It is one component of the DILG’s Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG), which was launched in 2014.According to the DILG, the SGLG challenges LGUs to continue good governance practices based on six thematic performance areas: Good Financial Housekeeping, Disaster Preparedness and Social Protection, which are the “core assessment areas”; and Business-friendliness and Competitiveness, Peace and Order, and Environmental Management, which are tagged as “essential assessment areas.” In order for the LGU to be conferred with SGLG, the DILG said they must pass all three core assessment areas and any of the essential assessment areas.Asked for comment Friday, June 3, 2022, the Municipal Government of Cordova said it was delighted with the recognition and thanked those who have helped the LGU attain a good financial performance.“Nakapasar ang lokal nga pangagamhanan sa Cordova pinaagi sa pagtinabangay sa nagkadaiyang departamento sa lungsod ubos sa pagdumala ni Mayor Cho Teche Sitoy (Cordova passed the Good Financial Housekeeping due to the cooperation of different departments of the Municipal Government under the leadership of Mayor Cho Teche Sitoy),” the Municipal Government stated. Sitoy’s full name is Mary Therese “Teche” Sitoy Cho.In a separate interview, San Fernando Mayor Lakambini “Neneth” Reluya also thanked all her municipal employees for contributing to the recognition.“Thanks to our department heads and local government unit employees for the dedication and hard work,” said Reluya on Friday, June 3.The list of 2021 Good Financial Housekeeping passers was released by the DILG on Thursday, June 2.Based on the list, a total of 231 LGUs in the country have passed the assessment, as of May 27.
