CEBU City will be the recipient of seven big projects worth P500 million under the flood control projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7.
City Councilor Jerry Guardo, chairman of the committee on infrastructure, said the funds will come from the DPWH 7-Cebu City District Engineering Office.
The projects include the widening and dredging of the rivers between Barangays T. Padilla and Tinago (P50 million), Barangays Day-as and T. Padilla (P50 million), and Lorega San Miguel and Zapatera (P50 million).
Another P50 million will be spent for dredging the river near Gen. Maxilom Ave. where a 16-year-old boy drowned in flood in October 2020.
The budget is P100 million for each of the dredging operations in the rivers in Pardo area, Bulacao and Butuanon River in Barangay Talamban.
Inspection
Guardo said the DPWH 7 Cebu City personnel have started their ocular inspection for their flood control projects.
The owners of the structures that will be affected by the projects will be endorsed to the Division for the Welfare of the Urban Poor.
The DPWH 7 has downloaded P140 million to the Cebu City Hall as its assistance to residents that will be affected by its projects.
Last week, the Cebu City Government released P2.5 million as assistance to around 70 families affected by the flood control project in the river that passes through Barangays Tejero and Tinago.
Each owner whose house violated the three-meter easement rule will receive P35,000.
The City Council approved the resolution sponsored by Councilor Raymond Alvin Garcia granting the affected families financial assistance.
Garcia sits as the chairman of the committee on housing in the City Council. (PAC / KAL)
